    DMUN through the years

The Dasmariñas Model United Nations (DMUN) is an annual United Nations simulation conference that is being held in the City of Dasmariñas, Cavite, Philippines. It is organized by a group of students from the De La Salle University - Dasmariñas (DLSU - D). DMUN aims to raise awareness of international relations and pressing global affairs by providing the participants an avenue to develop skills such as research, critical thinking, public speaking, leadership, and diplomacy. On 2013, under the leadership of Professor Edwin Lineses, DMUN started as a course requirement for the 4th year Political Science and 2nd year Development Studies students of DLSU - D who are taking up International Relations as a course subject. This 2017 is the fifth installation of DMUN. As part of its vision to reach more students and build networks and relationships among DLSU - D and non-DLSU - D students through diplomacy and working together on resolving global problems, the 5 th DMUN will now be open to all interested high school and college students in the Philippines.

    MUN in a nutshell

Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation activity of the actual proceedings of various bodies of the United Nations (UN). It seeks to engage students in a forum where they could use and develop their abilities to create solutions on pressing issues affecting the people and the world. It focuses on the application of diplomacy and knowledge of international relations and how these things will help in coming up with viable solutions. Delegates will represent their assigned countries as ambassadors and state their position, debate on pressing issues and forge short term and long term solutions to the problem at hand. This year, the 5th Dasmariñas Model United Nations will simulate three (3) UN bodies namely the General Assembly, Security Council, and the Human Rights Council.

    On this year's theme

It is not to be denied that problems arising in a single country are now easily affecting the international community. With increasing interdependence among countries also comes the need for collective action on resolving pressing issues. Through this year’s theme, Collective Action Towards Achieving a World of Peace, Security, and Sustainability, the Secretariat of the 5th Dasmariñas Model United Nations aims to provide the participants an avenue where they can be aware and involved on timely issues affecting the world today and the future.
